Reopening California

October 15, 2021

We are following the County of San Diego protocols and guidelines for indoor events. At this time self-declaration of vaccinated status is the guidance. Unvaccinated individuals need to wear face coverings. in addition we are in contact with with key individuals within the State of California and San Diego County who are providing more current and specific information and updates.  We made arrangements with the hotel for the breakout session rooms to have social distancing seating and we are providing hand sanitizer in all rooms and in the registration foyer. ADP, a Silver Sponsor, will have individual bottles of hand sanitizer for everyone.

Delta Variant-The rate of Delta variant cases has started to decline. We’re hopeful the trend continues.  Read the August 10 and July 26 updates below.  .

August 10, 2021-COVID New Outbreaks and Delta Variant

First, read July 26, 2021 below–All of our sources are saying the reopening and Accounting Day should not be affected by these recent COVID developments. Our key sources are contacts with the California and San Diego County centers and the Town and Country hotel staff.  The hotel is currently doing events as usual and, in the absence of regulatory guidance, is planning to continue to do so. Note that we referenced “our contacts” at the centers which are folks working in these centers, not the ones issuing press releases.  While infections and hospitalizations are up today, all that is expected to back to normal by late September/early October.  See the July 26 the update in the next paragraph.  We’ll continue to update this page as new (and real) information becomes available.

We are currently actively planning Accounting Day. The registration system is open and we are receiving registrations on a daily basis.

July 26, 2021-New and exciting update:

California has fully reopened its economy. This means no more physical distancing, no capacity limits, no county tiers, and relaxed mask guidance. We are moving forward to have Accounting Day as a live, in-person event on October 25, 2021 as planned. Masks, you may ask? As of today, self-declaration of vaccination or natural immunity is the most recent guideline. Please check back for updates.

The Accounting Day registration system is open and you may sign up now for October 25, 2021.

Updating the May 11, 2021 update:

We have been in contact with the hotel and it looks like events like Accounting Day will actually happen on October 25th. They are already doing events about the size of Accounting Day but still require masks. They and we are hopeful that June 15th is a magic date when most restrictions will be lifted. They are guessing the mask mandate will be lifted by October.  Assuming the June 15th guidelines are positive, we’ll start the marketing for the event shortly afterwards.   Stay tuned…..

May 11, 2021

We have been receiving inquiries about Accounting Day 2021. We are totally dependent on the ban on “gatherings” being lifted which, of course, is dependent on COVID-19 being well behind us. When the October 25, 2021 date was set (see the first few paragraphs below) the thinking was obvious there would be plenty of distance between the new date and COVID-19. As of today, that has changed from obvious to maybe questionable as COVID-19 is still running strong. But it is our plan to have Accounting Day as scheduled. In the meantime, you may be interested in webinars presented by Accounting Education Institute.com, the provider of Accounting Day. The webinars are quality CPE, usually in a 2-4 hour format.at very affordable prices.

In order for Accounting Day 2021 to happen, the following needs to happen:
-The ban on gatherings has to be lifted
-There must be distance between October 25th and the re-opening meaning that we all must feel comfortable to be in crowds again.
-There must be an interest in Accounting Day as live event. We have become accustomed to virtual learning and may not desired to get out again. It is our belief that the opposite will be true in that we will all be very happy to be back to normal and interact with others in events such as Accounting Day, an education and networking event.
-We reserved all the large meeting rooms at the hotel. This allows for better and more comfortable seating with good distancing in the breakout rooms. Not perfect, but it’s still huge and and does come with a cost.
-We get sponsors to help support the 2020 losses and increased costs and the early registrations are enough so we see there it a true continued interest in Accounting Day.
-We have strong speaker interest with new and fresh topics. We do not see any reason that this won’t be true.

Registration is open so feel free to register early. All fees paid are fully refundable for any reason at any time (up to three days before the event).

Stay safe and healthy. Please email [email protected] or call 858-682-9668 with any questions or concerns.

Our August 4, 2020 Message:

We had hoped that COVID-19 would be well behind us when moving the date to September 21, 2020 from May. It is now apparent (8/4/20) that this is not happening. Large events (“gatherings”) are still not allowed and the recent directive from Gov Newsom reinforces the ban.  Even with the ban fully lifted, it’s our feeling that there will be a lingering effect and many attendees will still be adverse about attending.

Due to this and many other factors we feel it best to put plenty of distance between COVID-19 and Accounting Day to protect the safety of everyone and reduce the fears surrounding live events.

Accounting Day is now scheduled for October 25, 2021. Note that this is next year, not this upcoming October 2020.

Of interest, we are not alone in this decision. In rescheduling we had hard time getting a date with the hotel as many other events are doing the same thing, pushing their events out to ensure the safety of all concerned. We are fortunate to get a date at all.

You may ask: I thought Accounting Day was in May?  This is true, however, accountants in companies, CPAs in companies and in firms, student (volunteers) final exam schedules and many other conflicts have caused attendance to decline. To help free us from this constraints we have been trying to move Accounting Day to the Fall for a few years, easier said than done.  COVID-19 helped to push by the barriers.

We are not totally turning our back on May.  We will review everything around year-end and consider doing a May event which would give us two Accounting Days in 2021.

Are live events a thing of the past? What is Accounting Day’s plan for the future?  It’s our opinion that live events will be viewed differently, especially in the next 1-3 years or so. However, they will not go away.  A huge factor in the success of Accounting Day that’s it’s both an education and networking event.  The positive networking stories are endless with many noted elsewhere on the website.

We have begun offering online education events and will be ramping up the curriculum.  We are partnering with Accounting Education Institute and other organizations to maximize idea and topic ideas as well as marketing ideas.

Of interest: for the October 25, 2021 Accounting Day we have secured additional space to help with social distancing in the sessions. Most all session seating will be in the larger rooms with classroom seating.

Our March 18, 2020 Message:

Accounting Day has been monitoring the coronavirus (COVID-19) and has made the decision to reschedule the May 11th event to to September 21, 2020. (This was previously reported at September 28, however the hotel forced us to the new data to accommodate a much larger (and profitable) event.) Due to the many uncertainties surrounding the pandemic we pushed the date out to September 21 to give plenty of distance between today’s pandemic as practical.  Because the hotel has many events that are being rescheduled, available dates are filling up fast.

We hope everyone is staying safe and healthy as we adjust to social distancing, which most likely includes working from home and other changes to our daily routines.

We recognize, first and foremost, that both individuals and their organizations need to take the appropriate steps to protect the safety and health of their families, their employees, and their communities.

Please take a moment to view the short encouragement video from our keynote speaker.

Thank you for trusting Accounting Day with your education and networking needs. We feel fortunate to have excellent speakers with timely and relevant topics each year and we thank you for participating in Accounting Day with your loyal attendance.

We will send emails and continually be updating this site with the most current information.  The agenda topics and speakers will also be kept current and updated with expected changes as they occur.

All fees paid, either by attendees or exhibitors, will be 100% refunded and we’ll restart the process again in about June.

Stay safe and healthy. Please email [email protected] or call 858-682-9668 with any questions or concerns.

Thank you,
